What was once a small dream, the non-profit organization Second Chance Rescue NYC has now grown into an operation that successfully moves an average of one thousand animals from homelessness to safety, every year. Generous donations from caring supporters, coupled with an amazing team of volunteers have made it possible to connect thousands of cats and dogs with loving families.
Shelters can unfortunately be crowded, and Second Chance Rescue understands the importance of reducing animal overpopulation in such facilities. Properly rescuing and rehabilitating these loving and furry friends is something this caring organization does as well as anyone.
From saving a suffering animal’s life, to properly guiding the rehabilitation process, Second Chance Rescue is there every step of the way to ensure their rescued cats and dogs are placed in a loving home. Once they are secured, the animal is then delivered to a private veterinarian for medical treatment, and sometimes therapy. This organization has a proud history of refusing to give up on an animal in need of a loving family. There are countless success stories in which they have saved a pet from extreme suffering by finding it the appropriate care–whether it be physical and/or mental treatment.
Resilience defines this organization, and the success story of “Birdie” is a wonderful example. Birdie was rescued from a kill shelter, where multiple veterinarians had already recommended she be euthanized because of her paralysis. They said she would never walk again and that attempting to keep her alive would be inhumane. However, Second Chance Rescue refused to give up, and instead were responsible for her attending months of physical therapy. The organization is proud to announce that Birdie can now walk, run, and play with the lovely woman who adopted her in Massachusetts!
